Watch Dogs sets sales record for new IP

Based on first week sales, Watch Dogs is the industry's best-selling new IP of all time, says Ubisoft.

The publisher announced that Watch Dogs has sold over four million copies in its first week on sale. That's sold through to consumers, they confirmed.

Watch Dogs launched globally on May 27 on PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360. A Wii U version is coming later this year.

"With such strong sales momentum and positive feedback from gamers, Watch Dogs has positioned itself as the must-have game of the moment," said Geoffroy Sardin, Ubisoft's senior vice president of sales and marketing.

"We’re really proud of this achievement, and are confident that the Watch Dogs brand has a promising future."

Ubisoft also added that Watch Dogs is the company's best-selling game ever in week one.

Previously, the publisher had said the game had set a day one sales record.
