SimCity offline mode goes live

The Maxis city builder is now playable offline via a new Single-Player Mode.

The mode is part of SimCity's Update No. 10, a free update that players will automatically download the next time they login.

Single-Player Mode changes SimCity from the always-connected game it was designed as to now enable offline play.

"We’ve listened to our players and today we are delivering against their most direct feedback with the release of the new Single-Player Mode," says Patrick Buechner, GM of Maxis Emeryville.

"Player feedback has helped us deliver 10 major gameplay Updates that have improved the experience with better tuning, new features and free content. This is the most definitive SimCity experience whether you choose to play Online or Offline."

At launch last March SimCity was beset by a host of connectivity issues as well as major gameplay problems based around the online play, many of which have subsequently been addressed in various updates.

Work began in August last year to make SimCity playable offline.
