Path of Exile raises over NZD$1.2 million in crowdfunding

Grinding Gear's RPG Path of Exile has now raised over NZD$1.2 million in crowdsourced funding, and is preparing for open beta.

Details have been unveiled today of the game's 'Act 3' expansion, which will become available when the open beta launches this December.

In the leadup to the expansion launch, PvP combat is being added to the game, which has so far received its funding through nominal fees for beta signups.

Chris Wilson, producer at Grinding Gears, said: "Act 3 adds an extra 50% of content to Path of Exile’s world. Our already gritty game gets a lot darker as players explore Sarn and witness the full extent of the corruption and cataclysm. High-level characters will really enjoy some of the enemy encounters and combat challenges.”

The team are also stressing that their free-to-play game will not feature a pay-to-win model, instead offering credits for 'ethical microtransactions' which allow beta access.
