“That day a leading security firm was engaged to investigate these claims. Gamestop has and will continue to work non-stop to address this report and take appropriate measures to eradicate any issue that may be identified.

“We regret any concern this situation may cause for our customers. Atlus have shipped 1.5-million copies of Persona 5

The publisher has taken the niche JRPG mainstream, announcing that over 1.5-million copies of Persona 5 have been shipped world-wide. Almost 500,000 of these were in Japan alone.

Game director Katsura Hashino told Waypoint, "Every time the development on a new Persona game starts, this subject always comes up at the very beginning,"

"When thinking about how much work goes into accomplishing such a feat, it's a huge amount. Honestly, to put that option into the game, we'd have to cut out other things to compensate for the workload, and every time that's the situation we'll basically say, 'it's not worth it'."
