Nintendo reveals E3 plans, Smash Bros. tournament

For the second year in a row Nintendo will forgo the press conference merry-go-round at the industry's biggest trade show.

The platform holder claims it continues to reinvent its approach to E3 with a series of activities designed to "communicate news directly to its key audiences, including fans, media, analysts, investors and business partners."

Instead of the traditional press conference adopted by other major publishers such as Sony, Microsoft, Ubisoft and EA, Nintendo will instead focus its E3 efforts on what it is calling 'Play Nintendo' including: a Digital Event, a video programme similar to the company's regular Nintendo Direct updates; the Super Smash Bros. Invitational, a 16 player tournament to be held at the Nokia Theatre adjacent to the LA Convention Center; and a series of live game demos streamed from Nintendo's booth on the show floor.

E3 2014 will take place during June 10-12 in LA.
