New Zealand not planning to follow suit with IT pricing inquiry

Gameplanet has confirmed that New Zealand has no immediate plans to replicate the IT sector pricing inquiry underway in Australia.

Prices have always been higher in this region, and higher again in New Zealand than in Australia, however media have been rather divided on whether the or not the prices in this region are reasonable, and, if they're not, whether or not that is even a problem for retail at all.

This is not to say the New Zealand government is unconcerned with the issue. A spokesperson for the New Zealand Minister for Information Technology and Communications Amy Adams told Gameplanet they were watching the Australian IT inquiry closely and would "go from there".

A cursory glance at online retailers operating for more savvy Australian and New Zealand consumers has yet to reveal any significant impact on brick and mortar retailers.
