MCV Pacific Awards: Publisher of the Year

MCV Pacific Awards: Publisher of the Year

Now we turn to the publisher of the year to see which of the companies which bring the games to our shores is this year's winner.

This year has seen local publishers become more involved with the industry than ever before. Publishers have been seen giving more talks, attending more events and giving back to charity and the gaming community at large more than ever before.

We've had to weather yet more disappointments from the R18+ front with several games being refused classification, and to their credit the publishers have long since stopped being silent or coy about the damage this policy has on our industry.

For the first time ever, publishers have come together almost unanimously to present their games directly to the public at the EB EXPO. With public exposure and community management being at an all time high, it's time to see which publisher has been voted by its peers as the number one for this year.

The winner of the first annual MCV Pacific Publisher of the Year Award is...

Ubisoft.

Always having a keen eye on the local industry, which is never more important than in hard times, Ubisoft has continued to show its dedication to the entire Australian industry throughout 2011. Whether it's the new Ubisoft 'Sharity' day or MD Ed Fong addressing students at Qantm College or participating in academic discussions at Macquarie University, Ubisoft remains an integral part of the local industry and has earned its solid reputation over years.

We asked Ron Curry, CEO of the Interactive Games and Entertainment Association, to say a few words about Ubisoft:

Congratulations to Ubisoft for being Publisher of the Year in the MCV Awards, which is no mean feat given the quality of publishers in the local Australian and NZ market.  Ubisoft offer a great catalogue of games appealing to a wide cross section of gamers and they certainly work hard to deliver to their audience.

As the local industry association we thank them for their continued support across our range of activities, from being on our Board to involvement in a range of committees.

Their competitive nature is well known throughout the industry, not least of all for their passionate defending of their industry football (soccer) championship. No doubt they have started training for next year’s both soccer (and netball) competitions. Congratulations to all the nominees for the MCV Publisher of the Year Award and especially to this year’s winner - Ubisoft.

Congratulations to Ubisoft and to all our nominees this year. As the landscape continues to shift, we look forward to another year of a strong community with great games and fantastic events.
