Following on from last week's announcement of the full list of Freeplay speakers, today the keynote addresses have been confirmed.
Mare Sheppard, the Toronto-based creator of N and N+ and Morgan Jaffit, Brisbane-based founder of Defiant Development, will be handling the international and Australian keynotes respectively.
Sheppard said: "It's awesome to see festivals like Freeplay recognise the importance of exploring the value of games as a cultural medium, and putting the spotlight on some great indie games and their creators."
"I'm excited to come and see what the scene in Melbourne is like and how it differs from the one here in Toronto – it'll be so great to meet other indies and see what amazing things they're working on. I'm honoured to have been invited to speak, and I really can't wait to be there."
Jaffit described Freeplay as: "[T]he place where we as developers get together and talk about the culture that surrounds game development today. Freeplay stands apart from the more technically focused conferences and really provides a great window into what's coming from Australia's indie developers."
Paul Callaghan, director of Freeplay, then noted: "A festival does two things. It showcases the best of a creative community to the rest of the world, and it brings the rest of the world to that creative community. Freeplay this year is excited about connecting artists, makers, developers, and players from incredibly diverse backgrounds.
"Part of that is also bringing interstate and international speakers to Melbourne to discuss regional variations in both art and industry."
The festival takes place next week at the State Library of Victoria in Melbourne from 19th-23rd September.
