The Japanese firm that owns Enterbrain, publisher of Famitsu, has acquired developer From Software.

Siliconera reports that Kadokawa will next month take control of 80 per cent of From, ending the developer’s previous spell of independence.

From CEO Naotoshi Zin says that the move will enable both parties to “expand platforms [to] everything from simple hardware to cloud networks” and better target international audiences.

Added Zin: “With a new system, from this point on, I believe we’ll be able to make newer and more in depth games.”

From owns the rights to the Dark Souls IP. The rights to the PS3-exclusive Demon's Souls are owned by publisher Sony.
