MCV takes a closer look today at the physical setup of the EB EXPO, speaking to EB Games National Events Manager Trent Weekes.
How does the setup for this year differ from the Gold Coast event?
This year’s set up is 25,000 square metres of gaming nirvana, which is significantly larger than the Gold Coast. We have an entire precinct of where gamers will be spoilt for choice as to what they can do.
Most importantly, the gaming floor is over double the size of the Gold Coast.
Does a shift in focus towards a festival mean an increase in entertainment over available products, or is the mix still the same?
We have been fortunate enough to actually increase both the entertainment and the products. This year there will be double the amount of playable screens as well as an entire pavilion dedicated to all things Home Grown Gaming.
We have also have added stunt and firework shows as well as official panels and celebrity signings in the new Community Hub area.
How have you set about making the EB Arena bigger and better this year?
The publisher partners have really bought their AAA Game with regards to the EB Arena. Expect to see international presenters showcasing the best upcoming products with a whole lot of theatrics thrown in there for that real wow factor.
What has been the number one challenge in working outside of the familiar territory of the Gold Coast exhibition centre?
To be honest coming to Sydney has been relatively drama free. The team at Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park are experts in large scale events like the EB Expo and have made the transition for us seamless.
The biggest challenge we have actually faced is getting around the venue from a sheer size perspective.
We have 2 golf buggies to zip around in, however that is no where near enough and I think next year we will need to invest to more buggies or skate shoes for everyone.
Thank you for your time.
