Indie game marketing company launches with 12 development studios

Chris Wright's new marketing company Surprise Attack has left beta and has12 development studios signed on for 2012.

The company had a soft launch last year, with former THQ marketing guru Chris Wright at the helm, offering free marketing services during a beta run across multiple indie productions.

Now, the company is fully up and running with an anticipated 20-25 titles slated for its marketing expertise in calendar 2012 across its 12 developer strong stable.

Wright said: "One of our key learnings from the beta was that there is huge demand for the kind of services we offer. We spoke with around 50 developers during the beta period."

"A common trend was that they know they need help with marketing their games but a great many don't want to sign up with a publisher – they want to build their studio brand and have more control over the marketing."

"That's where an agency such as Surprise Attack can really work for these teams – we provide scale, expertise and connections but the developer is always in control and always comes first."

Developers who have signed with Surprise Attack include Playside Studios (which is comprised of the former EA Melbourne team), Tin Man Games (handling a Judge Dredd licensed game), The Voxel Agents (creators of the Train Conductor series) and Melbourne-based sound engineer Stephan Shutze.

Simon Joslin, co-founder of The Voxel Agents, added: "We had a great experience working with Surprise Attack on the launch of Train Conductor 2:USA for Android. We had no hesitation in signing on again for the launch of our next game, coming later this year."
