Swanston Street in Melbourne was where the action was for the Wii U launch, but there were also launch gatherings in Sydney and Brisbane.

Each had entertainment and snacks to count away the final hours until the Wii U launched.

With EB noting that it thinks it'll be sold out of the Premium console by Monday, it looks as though the console is off to a running start.

From the reactions from retail, press and publishers on the night, it seems like the consensus is that people are glad to finally see the tip of the next-gen iceberg, and while no one's making any early claims about a victory one way or another for Nintendo, there is certainly a strong positive reaction to the hardware right now.
