Global Game Jam hits Australia and New Zealand this weekend

Nine venues across Australia and New Zealand will play host to the Global Game Jam from January 24 to 26.

The Global Game Jam is the world's largest game jam event held at physical locations simultaneously around the world. Over 15,000 people are expected to participate in over 500 locations throughout 70 countries.

Six locations in Australia, including Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra and two in Perth, and three in New Zealand, including Auckland, Christchurch and Hamilton, will provide the venues. See this list for more details.

Attendees, working in teams or individually, are given 48 hours in which to create a game based on a theme to be announced as the jam kicks off.

In Sydney, the games created will be showcased the following weekend at the Powerhouse Museum when the winners will be revealed, while the Melbourne jam held at AIE will be open to the public from 4.30pm to 5.30pm on Sunday, January 26.
