Blizzard's account information accessed

Leigh Harris
Blizzard's account information accessed users might be in need of a password change today, as notification has been sent down that someone has infiltrated the service.

The intrustion has been confirmed by Blizzard to have compromised account information, but Blizzard are quick to point out that at this time, there is no evidence that any financial information was accessed.

Email addresses were accessed by all regions outside of China, while the North American region (which includes Australia, New Zealand and South-East Asia) has seen information accessed which includes:

"...cryptographically scrambled versions of passwords (not actual passwords), the answer to a personal security question, and information relating to Mobile and Dial-In Authenticators."

Blizzard stresses that at this time the information taken is not enough to access peoples' accounts.

Blizzard is urging that people change their passwords as a precaution anyway, and reiterates that at the moment they have no reason to think any payment data has been affected. Blizzard is currently working with law enforcement to investigate the attack.
