Kotaku has reported that Australian and New Zealand players won't be locked out of overseas servers if they purchase The Old Republic from overseas.
A couple of weeks ago MCV reported that Australia and New Zealand would not be launch territories for Star Wars: The Old Republic.
With the game breaking EA's pre-order records, local gamers eager to participate in the highly anticipated MMORPG have been looking for alternate points of entry.
Stephen Reid, senior online community manager for EA, said: "There are no plans to 'region lock' or 'IP block' players from the game. You may experience some latency issues if you're not playing in a launch territory."
Australian and New Zealand gamers are already familiar with the latency of other MMORPGs without oceanic servers, so the removal of specific serverside blocks to local players as a barrier to entry may see a spike in overseas online purchases.
