Ubisoft has announced a new free-to-play entry in the Assassin's Creed franchise.

Developed in partnership with GREE and PlayNext, Assassin's Creed Memories will launch for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad later this winter.

Ubisoft says the game blends card-battling, role-playing and strategy elements, and draws upon locations from previous Assassin's Creed titles such as Renaissance Italy (Assassin's Creed II) and Colonial America (Assassin's Creed III).

"The card battle genre has been hugely popular around the world and GREE and PlayNext have demonstrated their know-how and expertise on such games,” says Jean Michel Detoc, managing director of the publisher's mobile division.

"With such expertise, we really believe they’re bringing a great new way to enjoy the richness of the Assassin’s Creed universe to mobile players."

Ubisoft says players will traverse history to build a powerful guild, recruit famous allies and defeat rival players. In addition to a single-player mode, Memories features multiplayer combat involving battles of up to 20 versus 20 players.
