Tuff Kat Entertainment, local distributor of the Angry Birds games, has announced a big initial splash into retail for the game this Christmas.

With over 20'000 units of Angry Birds and Angry Birds Rio sold in to retail, the budget-priced (AUD$19.95) titles look set to lay a benchmark for future iPhone success stories looking to catapult onto PC.

Julian White, managing director of Tuff Kat Entertainment, said: "This month’s launch of Angry Birds for the PC was very well received by gamers and it’s great to see the positive response at retail this Christmas."

"This strong result has led to retailers placing re-orders to fulfil the sell-through demand that has exceeded initial expectations. Angry Birds on PC is anticipated as being the number one PC budget release this Christmas."

The lower-end PC market suffered a little with the popularity of digital downloads at the same time as miniature games became bigger and bigger on the iPhone and other smartphone handhelds.

Now, with a huge title like Angry Birds seeing an upwards push into the lower-end of the budget PC market, it seems as though the wave might be receeding and a new customer may be about to be identified.

Angry Birds and Angry Birds Rio are developed by Rovio, published by Focus Multimedia and are available now on PC for AUD$19.95.
