The first state to pass an R18+ bill in preparation for the federal law being enacted on 1st January 2013 is Australia's Capital Territory.
Now that legislation has been passed at a Federal level which allows the sale of R18+ videogames in the country, each state has to pass a similar bill for copies to physically be sold.
Attorney General Simon Corbell told the ABC: "This is about making sure that adults are able to view and play and read what they wish as long as it does not do harm to others."
"An R18+ classification ensures that adults can access adult material in computer game form, but at the same time protecting children under the age of 18 from that material."
