Google pushing into the console gaming business

Google pushing into the console gaming business

The Wall Street Journal (as picked up by Game Informer) is reporting that Google is creating an Android-powered game console.

There will also be an Android wristwatch which can communicate with your Android device via Bluetooth, but the console itself is the most interesting part.

Given the extreme fragmentation seen in the industry in the last while, the console will likely be a component to other mid-tier competitors like the Ouya and Steambox rather than an overt threat to Microsoft and Sony.

That said, cheap, open platforms, if given the right set of specific circumstances, always have the potential to do to the big two what the iPhone did to the 3DS.
