GAME Australia unaffected by UK stock woes

GAME Australia unaffected by UK stock woes

While a swath of titles are not hitting GAME shelves in the UK, the independent Australian operation is still business as usual.

GAME in the UK has been undergoing some hard times. After a spate of store closures across the territory, GAME's web site went down, its stock fell to less than 1p per share and the company had to offer an official statement regarding its future operations.

Since then, potential buyers have indicated that a purchase after the company goes into formal administration would make more sense, but more recently, an offer was officially tabled to buy out the company, saving it from going under - a move which one Blueshore Global Equity said would be a hugely profitable endeavour while the company's stock remains undervalued.

Down under, however, GAME shows no signs of following in the UK's footsteps. More and more titles each day are being dropped from GAME UK shelves, including big titles like Ninja Gaiden 3, Mass Effect 3, Mario Party 9, Street Fighter X Tekken and many more.

In Australia, the big hitters are all so far being stocked as usual, including the much coveted Star Wars Xbox 360 console, which was recently dropped from GAME UK.

Paul Yardley, GAME Australia Managing Director, told MCV: "As a matter of course GAME Australia doesn’t stock all titles released in ANZ, and some titles we only stock for pre-order customers."

"But as our customers would expect, all recent and upcoming big releases have and will be stocked in full at our stores and online."

Relationships between buyers and publishers, even amongst global companies, are handled at an individual territory level. The games stocked in Australia are largely driven by local territory specific discussions.

While GAME Australia doesn't stock every title which comes out as a general rule, there has been no notable change in the number of titles the company has been taking.

The full list of titles which have not been stocked at GAME UK since its troubles began is: Mass Effect 3, Mario Party 9, Metal Gear Solid 3DS, Asura's Wrath, Street Fighter X Tekken, Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City, Cabela: Big Game Hunter, Kinect Rish: A Disney/Pixar Adventure, Zhu Zhu Babies, Inazuma 12, Yakuza Dead Souls, Ninja Gaiden 3, Kinect Rush: A Disney Pixar Adventure, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Pokepark 2 and Shogun 2 Fall of the Samurai.
