10 Things You Need to Know About: Beyond: Two Souls

The latest entry into David Cage's cinematic oeuvre is out today, and bares taking a closer look at in today's 10 Things:

  1. The game follows suit from Heavy Rain in that freedom of action is very rigid and is tied to the cinematic and narrative focus of the game rather than the whim of the player.
  2. This will be the first time in videogame history that the true performances of major Hollywood actors take front and centre stage.
  3. Ellen Page plays Jodie Holmes, a troubled girl who has another entity alongside her at all times, named Aiden, and Willem Dafoe plays Nathan Dawkins, a government scientist working with Jodie to help her discover and master her gift/curse.
  4. Aiden can manipulate objects in the game world, and the player will control the being at certain times during the game.
  5. Jodie's tale is that of a girl trained from a young age by the CIA, only to go rogue after she discovers she is to be used as a weapon.
  6. The game follows Jodie's story for 15 years of her life.
  7. Following the death of composer Normand Corbeil, Lorne Balfe and Hans Zimmer took over to complete the score for the game.
  8. Beyond is the second game ever to be recognised by the Tribeca film festival, the first being LA Noire from Team Bondi.
  9. Reviews for the game are coming through mixed, averaging 75 on Metacritic and boasting scores as high as 10/10 and as low as 4/10.
  10. The game is out today in Australia and New Zealand, a couple of days before Europe, exclusive to Playstation 3.
